Effective control of microbial contamination through biocide use is only possible when routine monitoring of fungi and bacteria levels are performed. The Bug Alert® test kit make routine determinations of fungal and bacteria populations quick and easy. The Bug Alert® test kit contains flexible plastic strips to which nutrient-containing filter paper is attached. The kit is complete and ready to use. No special equipment or training is necessary. Test results can be read Aerobic Bacteria (AB) 24-36 hrs and Yeast & Mold (YM) 72 hrs.
The YM stands for Yeast and Molds (fungi), these are closely related organisms and generally require the same conditions for growth. Results may be read as early as 72 hours and may take an additional 3 days. The AB stands for Aerobic Bacteria, those organisms which require oxygen. Most bacteria that contaminates the industrial environment are in this category and will grow on the AB test strip. The kit contains dehydrated pads and requires no refrigeration.
If the test strips are positive for bugs, call FQS to consult possible treatment options. If the test strips are negative, the next step would be to check for SRB (Sulfate Reducing Bacteria) anaerobic bacteria to determine if this might be the problem. A bottom fuel sample is required for microbiological testing.

Adenosine Tri Phosphate or ATP is a molecule used for energy transport within all living cells. ATP is a substance found in all animal and vegetable matter, including food and food debris, in addition to bacteria, fungi, and other micro-organisms. The amount of ATP in a sample indicates the current biological activity and biomass in the sample at the time of measurement, i.e. the immediate biological contamination (and damage potential) in the system.
The HY-LiTE® Plus Test is intended for detection of ATP in samples where higher than usual levels of inhibition are suspended such as paints and coatings, metalworking fluids, hydraulic fluids, activated sludge (waste water treatment) and similar. The HY-LiTE® Plus Pen can be used to test biocide efficacy. This method can be used to demonstrate the speed and mode of action of different biocides. You will also need a HY-LiTE® Free ATP Pen to perform the test.

Filters / Filtration Systems FQS recommends cleaning fuels/lubes prior to being put into storage. Modular manifold solutions handle a wide range of flows and viscosities.
Water means trouble and where there’s water there’s life. Stop trouble before it gets in! Water has a way of sneaking in unless you have a Donaldson T.R.A.P.™ Breather standing guard over your system.
No moisture slips by Donaldson's Thermally Reactive Advanced Protection (T.R.A.P). In fact, it removes moisture at relative humidity levels as low as 15%.
The T.R.A.P Breathers are the only breathers that literally strip moisture vapor from intake air and exhales the moisture back into the atmosphere on the outflow cycle. T.R.A.P. filtration technology reacts instantly to thermal conditions, blocking moisture completely.

Biodiesel is an alternative biomass based fuel that can be produced from a variety of renewable sources, including vegetable oils (soybean oil, canola oil, sunflower oil, cottonseed oil) animal fats, and used greases. Biodiesel is usable in its pure form known as B100 (FAME) or it can be blended with a petroleum based diesel to make a blended grade like B20, B5 or B2. It is well documented that FAME products (i.e., B100 and biodiesel blends) have a greater tendency toward microbial contamination, stability issues and reduced storage time. Good housekeeping practices remain the key to protecting your investment. Dirt, debris, and water can gather in tankers, fill lines, fill areas, and storage tanks. Water is the number one contaminant and the primary cause for microbial problems and other issues. FQS offers a variety of microbial test kits that are easy to use and require no prior lab experience. Products: FQS 1.5 Microbicide® is effective and economic to use and begins working within 5 hours. However, preferred soak time is 12-24 hours. The designation of SRB stands for Sulfate Reducing Bacteria. These are organisms which reduce sulfate to sulfide in the absence of oxygen. Anaerobic sulfate reducing bacteria are ubiquitous in the environment. During their growth they are responsible for fouling, corrosion and pitting of metals and concrete and producing an objectionable rotten egg odor. It is essential that these organisms be monitored and controlled to prevent corrosive damage caused by their metabolic activities.
The SRB Test System is a kit that contains tubes of culture media specifically formulated to promote the growth of anaerobic sulfate reducing bacteria. A unique sample applicator allows for the evaluation of both liquids and surfaces. Other components of the system ensure the most ideal conditions for the growth of these organisms. SRB is designed to be used in areas where little or no formal laboratory facilities are available. Everything needed to perform 25 tests is contained in the kit. Detailed instructions describing the quantitative interpretations are included with each kit.
If positive results for bugs, Call FQS to consult on possible treatment options. If the test results are negative, the next step would be to run a MicrobMonitor® DF Test to check for aerobic bacteria and fungus.
