BUG ALERT^TM BF test kit is for counting bacteria and fungi in hydrocarbon fuels. The unique aspect of the BUG ALERT^TM BF kit allows you to test for bacteria and fungi concurrently. The paddles are coated with an agar culture media, each side of the paddle is coated with a different medium. One side of the paddle will report bacteria growth in the form of red dots or colonies on the surface. The fungal (yeast & mold) side of the paddle will appear as a white, cottony, fuzzy patch or patches.

The kits are ready to use and you do not need any special equipment or lab training. Unscrew the cap on the container with the paddle, dip the paddle into the fuel sample and reseal. Test results can be read in 24-36 hours. A conversion chart with pictures is included for determining the level of microbial contamination in the tank.

The BUG ALERT^TM BF has a six month shelf life. It can be stored in the refrigerator or at room temperature, but care should be taken to avoid frequent temperature changes.

If the test paddle is positive for bugs, treatment with Kathon^® FP 1.5 biocide is recommended. If the test strips are negative, the next step would be to check for SRB (Sulfate Reducing Bacteria) anaerobic bacteria to determine if this might be the problem.
