The problems associated with microbiological contamination of fuels used for both private and commercial aviation applications are steadily increasing due to the changes in fuel chemistry and equipment. Investigation of aircraft incidents where microbiological activity is suspected to have been a major contributing factor date back to 1939. Microbial contamination will cause system and equipment corrosion, filter plugging, and erratic fuel level readings on the flight deck. Microorganisms can come from or be anywhere in the fuel system and requires only minute amounts of water to live and thrive. The fasting acting solution to this problem is
Kathon® FP 1.5 biocide.
Independent Studies performed by Rolls Royce demonstrated that
Kathon® FP 1.5 presented no hazard to high temperature super alloys at four times the recommended dose, thermal stability testing indicated a reduction in tube deposit rating at four time the recommended dose rate; was fully soluble in the fuel and aqueous media at the recommended dose rate of 100 ppm; and was compatible with fuel system materials. No other biocide can offer the combination of efficiency, economy and 100% success rate in the field.
Kathon® FP 1.5 has obtained numerous
approvals from leading aircraft engines and airframe manufacturers. Furthermore, Kathon® FP 1.5 is one of only two biocides approved for use by
IATA (International Aircraft Transport Association) and is listed in the IATA guide:
"Guidance Material on Microbiological Contamination in Aircraft Fuel Tanks". FSII or more commonly known as DiEGME is not a true biocide.
Kathon® FP 1.5 continues to be the finest biocide available in the market place today.
Kathon® FP 1.5 remains the world leader in biocides for the aviation industry, is fast acting and only requires a 24-hour soak time to kill microorganisms as compared to the 72 hours required by Biobor JF. This difference in product performance will reduce your downtime and layovers. One gallon of
Kathon® FP 1.5 treats twice as much fuel as the next closest competitor Biobor JF.
Kathon® FP 1.5 can be applied to the aircraft manually, as an over wing treatment, or by using an additive injection system. Please refer to your AMM, IATA Guidelines as well as recommended practices from the equipment manufacturer for instructions on the use of
Kathon® FP 1.5 biocide as part of your fuel maintenance treatment program.
