Biodiesel is an alternative fuel that can be produced from a variety of renewable sources, including soybean oil, canola oil, sunflower oil, cottonseed oil, and animal fats. Biodiesel is usable in its pure form known as B100 or it can be blended with a petroleum based diesel to make a blended grade like B20, B5 or B2. Biodiesel (B100) or biodiesel blends that contain recovered greases and fats may see an increase in microbial contamination and stability issues. Because biodiesel is very similar to its cousin, diesel fuel, it is susceptible to the same microbial and instability issues.
Good housekeeping practices remain the key to protecting your investment. Dirt, debris, and water
can gather in tankers, fill lines, fill areas, and storage tanks. Water is the number one contaminant
and the primary cause for microbial problems and other issues. FQS offers a variety of
microbial test kits that are easy to use and require no prior lab experience.
