Oil & Gas Production
Regardless which segment of the hydrocarbon industry you are involved with, Fuel Quality Services, Inc., (FQS) can assist you with your production needs. Whether through preventative applications or corrective actions, we can assist you to improve operations.
Finished Fuels
Refined middle distillate fuels have undergone changes in quality over the past two decades creating a situation that requires fuel users to be more diligent in checking both the quality of received fuel and the fuel storage facilities into which the fuel is placed. These changes are a result of lower quality crudes, increased demand for distilled product from a barrel of crude, and a more severe refining process. While today's middle distillate fuel still meets ASTM Specifications, problems arising from the fuel's susceptibility to both outside contaminants and inherent deficiencies, call for continued examination and maintenance of fueling systems.
Biodiesel
Biodiesel is an alternative fuel that can be produced from a variety of renewable sources, including soybean oil, canola oil, sunflower oil, cottonseed oil, and animal fats. Biodiesel is usable in its pure form known as B100 or it can be blended with a petroleum based diesel to make a blended grade like B20, B5 or B2. Biodiesel (B100) or biodiesel blends that contain recovered greases and fats may see an increase in microbial contamination and stability issues. Because biodiesel is very similar to its cousin, diesel fuel, it is susceptible to the same microbial and instability issues.
Military Aviation
Microbial contamination can live and breed anywhere in the fuel distribution system. Where water has the potential to accumulate, early detection and treatment can eliminate the headaches associated with the high cost of repair and/or replacement of tanks and equipment.
Military Ground
Keeping fuel stable and fuel systems free from biological growth can be challenging. Equipment must be able to respond the first time when called upon for action. MIL-S-53021 has approved the biocide
Kathon® FP 1.5 in combination with a multifunctional fuel stabilizer
LTSA-35A to make a powerful team for this defense. These are critical application items and are listed on the
QPL.
Nonmilitary Aviation
The problems associated with microbiological contamination of fuels used for both private and commercial aviation applications are steadily increasing due to the changes in fuel chemistry and equipment. Investigation of aircraft incidents where microbiological activity is suspected to have been a major contributing factor date back to 1939. Microbial contamination will cause system and equipment corrosion, filter plugging, and erratic fuel level readings on the flight deck. Microorganisms can come from or be anywhere in the fuel system and requires only minute amounts of water to live and thrive. The fasting acting solution to this problem is
Kathon® FP 1.5 biocide.
Motor Vehicle: Gasoline
The pressures and economics to clean our air have spawned a new industry to try and deal with the fuel problems as a result of these actions. In our zeal to clean up the air we have changed the chemistry of diesel significantly enough to allow bacteria and fungus to attack fuel systems easier. The reduction of sulphur and aromatics has added to the susceptibility of fuel to biological attack.
Motor Vehicle: Diesel
The pressures and economics associated with clean emissions have spawned a new industry to try and deal with the problems associated with fuel. In our zeal to clean up the air we have changed the chemistry of diesel fuel enough to make it easier for bacteria and fungus to live and grow in fuel systems. Added to these problems are the reductions of sulphur and aromatics making diesel fuel more susceptible to biological attack.
Rail
Whether you are hauling freight or passengers, your engine needs reliable and clean fuel. Because refineries use harsh conditions to extract various fuels from a barrel of crude, today’s fuels are not as stable as fuels of the past. In addition, due to shortened settling times and the need to move more fuel faster, fuel and fuel systems are acquiring more water making it easier for microbial contamination. Microbial growth can spawn from pipelines and bulk shipping vessels contaminating down stream fuel storage systems.
Emergency Power
What do you rely on when there is a loss of off-site power? Does your Homeland Security plan include maintaining the quality of your stored diesel fuel for your emergency standby generator? Emergency Standby Diesel Generator Systems are great if they are operational when you need them in a time of crisis.
FAIU
Whether you are filtering a 500 gallon home heating oil tank, a ten million barrel terminal storage tank or your client list includes residences, convenient stores, nuclear power plants, airports, or the military Fuel Quality Services, Inc. (FQS) can provide you with a cost effective and reliable filtration system or a filtration additive injection unit (FAU) that gets the job done right the first time. FQS has designed and fabricated custom onsite mobile fuel filtration / additive meter and injection systems for the military, utilities, nuclear power plants as well as international customers. These systems provide the customer with onsite capability to maintain a clean fuel system.
Bulk Fuel Distribution
Pipelines move fuel and fuel moves the country. With over 80,000 miles of pipeline moving product throughout the country there are bound to be issues somewhere. Independent field tests in the United States and abroad have proven that pipelines can be one of the major causes of microbial contamination to downstream storage tanks and fuel systems.
